Slight Change Of Course… But Not Direction

I had my think. A long think. Last night and the night before. And so i’ve decided to change to a Law LLB degree.

I sent the email last night to request a change. Then I remembered how they still haven’t got back to me about the email I sent last week. Was it last week? I appreciate it’s Easter… So I phoned them. And it’s sorted.

I have chosen the broad pathway, which means I get free choice of modules at the start of my degree. I wanted to do ‘Reading Classical Greek’, but I’d have to wait until February (I think) for it to start, as I have to pass 60 credits at level one before I can do a level two module. I’ve LITERALLY just, as i’m writing this, had a brainwave though. If I do W100, that ends in September / October, and then pick up a 30 credit module in October, I can do the Greek module in February, without a gap in studies! Hm, i’ll have to look into that.

I’ve withdrawn from DD101,  as I do not want this as my free choice. It’s a damn boring module, but as they keep telling me, it’s meant to be general. I don’t like it. By withdrawing, they keep my student loan from it, and offer me 90% off another module. Which is better value than any other withdrawal. I’d expected to have to pay 75% of the module costs at this stage. But no! Only the ten percent.

I’m happy to be on the LLB, but again, I feel i’ve wasted time by being on the other one. Damnit.

DD101 Marked Assignment!

I was emailing my W100 tutor today, to ask for an extension over the weekend so I could edit my TMA (to make it fit the word count), and as I checked that had been granted I noticed another email in my inbox – marked assignment!

I always get so excited over marked assignments, towards the end of the fortnight, I start to check my emails at least once an hour!

It wasn’t the mark i’d hoped for, but the comments are all positive. I’m a bit confused, to be honest. At least it’s not a fail…

TMA05 Submitted For DD101

I have just submitted TMA05. I have also just finished writing it too. This time, I spread the writing over three days, though I usually like to write them all in one go. It left me each time thinking about what I could write next, which was a little annoying. Hopefully I can get a higher mark for the one than the last one, as it’s actually complete!

I found this one a bit tricky, as I was destined to go over the word count by a LONG way, I could see this about halfway through. I had to delete some unnecessary phrases and condense some stuff down so I could fit in a conclusion, which has ended up being quite thin. It’s still a valid conclusion though.

Let’s look at TMA06… Ooh, I get to choose what to write about!

DD101 – TMA04 Marked

My half – arsed attempt at TMA04 has been marked. I emailed my tutor last night as the two week deadline for marking had passed, and it had also been two weeks since submission, and it occurred to me he may not have received it. He emailed back this morning saying he had received it, and it would be marked soon.

This afternoon, I saw the email. Marked assignment. Ooh, I wonder which one?

It was the one I had emailed about. The mark was still nearly a pass though… only five marks off!

Quite chuffed at that really, but I should get substitution still.

Must work harder on the remaining ones, as I want my average score a bit higher than it is. I’d like to get some more marks in the 70% plus region. Not enough of those.

Still waiting on my mark for W100 TMA01.

TMA01 Submitted, TMA05 Started

After rehearsal last week, I did indeed sit down and write up TMA01 for W100. I wish I hadn’t left it so damn long, but I was comfortable with the ‘write in your own words’, ‘answer these questions’ and ‘summarise’ format, along with the 900 word limit. I think I hit just over 850, so within the ten percent zone, and I completed it in under two hours. The subject was Section 6 of the colloquially named ‘Public Disorder Act’, collective trespass. A new thing for me, as I have never looked at trespass law. Never felt a need to, as trespass is like a weed in a garden. A weed is only a weed if you don’t want it there and it annoys you, and a person is also only a trespasser if they’re annoying you. I’m essentially trespassing on Asda properly every day, but as long as i’m not causing trouble, they seem to leave me alone. Yes, i’m crap at similies and metaphors.

Tonight, i’m starting TMA05 for DD101. It’s in the format of a report, on ‘the disputed role of expert knowledge in understanding and managing risk’. I have to start the reading, but i’m also planning as I go along. So I know what goes under each heading.

TMA04 Submitted, But Not Completely…

So I submitted TMA04, a compare and contrast essay of Stuart Cohen’s and Steven Hall’s views on the role of the media with regards to social disorder and moral panic. I didn’t complete it, I sent in about 400 of the 1500 word limit, so I qualify for substitution.

The problem wasn’t so much the word count, but finding relevant information on Hall’s views. There wasn’t much written about him, which was a bit annoying. I’ve already had a week’s extension on it, and I tried. I tried a few times. But I just could not find the information. So I won’t get any kind of mark for this.

I also got told today i’m not on the rota for work next week, so there’s a possibility i’m being made redundant on Saturday, my last day at work.

This week hasn’t been a great start to being 25.

Behind Schedule (And Ahead Of It Too)

I am behind with DD101 again. A week behind. I feel like I lost a week somewhere, and with W100 books arriving, I haven’t been able to submit TMA04 on time. I have an extension, nut it’s still not holding my interest. I think this one is going to be my substitution TMA…

On the plus side, I have been working through my exercises in Block 1 of W100. It’s very interesting so far, and the first TMA looks like a piece of cake.

I didn’t attend any W100 tutorials. Though they’re held right around the corner, I just couldn’t get up for either of them. Annoying, but that’s just how it happened sadly.

I have until Monday to submit TMA04. I will send something, even if it’s not complete.
