May Day Weekend Results

It’s May Day weekend! Well, actually, it’s May Day itself now, a Bank Holiday, which means nothing because I am not working. Other than the fact that the bank is taking a day longer to clear my tax refund.

So, to recap this weekend. On Friday, I spent the WHOLE DAY refreshing my emails for the last possible day the mark for TMA03 could be sent through. By late afternoon, I was actually rationing my refresh rate to once per quarter hour, as my brain was genuinely going crazy…

I even had the OU website open with StudentHome up so I could refresh the page that my results got posted to. Then, just after 10pm, I saw my mark had appeared on the website!

I was so happy, I got exactly the same mark as I did last time! I’m not sure how the marks were split between the essay and the plan, but if it was weighted fairly, then 33.3%r would be for the plan, leaving 66.6%r for the essay. If this was the case, I believe I did quite poorly for the plan, but made up for it on the essay itself. I’M SO HAPPY! I had started to worry a bit.

I’ve worked out that under the OU marking guide, i’m at a 2.1, which is the lowest I need to reasonably succeed in getting a job placement or training. I’m good with this, but want to push for those extra marks! I really need some work experience now though.

Next Wednesday, I start my teaching assistant course. I imagine lots of paperwork and formalities for the first session.

TMA03 Submitted – Word Count Hit!

I managed to get the TMA sent off! Yes, it is already Friday morning (isn’t it always), but the cut-off is midday, so i’m ok!

I received a reply to the email. I can’t get away with a technicality. I can’t do less on the plan, it IS a word count that I have to hit. I managed to pad it out fine, so great! I feel ok with the essay, but not so much the plan. Let’s see how it goes…

500 Words For An Essay Plan? Are You Kidding?

I’ve started, and mostly completed, TMA03 for W100.  I got a bit befuddled with the question before i’d looked properly, it’s an ‘explore this statement’ question.  Said statement is ‘A person commits a crime only if they have the relevant criminal state of mind at the time of committing the criminal act’.  I’ve done 280 of the 500 word limit for the essay plan, and 720 ish of the 1000 word limit for exploring the statement.

The thing is – how do you make an essay plan that is HALF of that of the essay itself?

I’m struggling to pad it out.  I’ve tried and tried.  It’s resulted in an email being sent to my tutor asking if i’ll actually be penalised for not hitting the limit, as the assessment booklet says ‘maximum word count’. So can I do less?

I’m waiting for a reply, and i’ll finish my essay when I get one. And send it off tomorrow night after rehearsal.

Block Two – Legal Personality

TMA03 for W100 is due in this week, on Friday. I’m about 35 pages into Block Two, which is about a third of the way through. I was working on it earlier, but I got a mahoosive headache and had to stop. I ended up falling asleep for a few hours, missing the first half of the gypsy wedding programme on Channel 4.

It’s very interesting, this block. All about when life starts and ends in the eyes of the law. I think that’s what the essay is about. I’m pretty sure. I know I have to do a plan too, which is included in the word count.

I have sorted my course out, i’m officially on the LLB course now. I’m a bit miffed I can’t actually do the Greek or Latin module I wanted to do, but there’s other options. Many other options. I’ve also been accepted onto the teaching assistant course, just waiting for the letter. It starts at the start of May. I have to sort out my placement, which I shall do this week, now Easter is over. All is good.

Search Engine Results

I check my blog stats every day. Usually more than I probably should. It’s exciting to me, seeing people read what i’ve written. I do it maybe one an hour, for both blogs, as I also co – author WinsAndWounds, a loosely fashion / life type of blog, along with my friend Lucy.

So when I checked my stats today, I found that one of you had found this blog through searching the ESSAY TITLE! Then, a bit later, another person!

Were you hoping to find a pre – written essay maybe? Naughty naughty! Or just some help? Fair enough.

So I searched for TMA03 myself. And as it happens, The Impulsive Student is the top result!

So, thanks for all the clicks, and views, and visitors, as that all helps me rank higher. But, I will be watching what I write even closer now, as you really shouldn’t be searching for help on the oh – so – trusty interwebs…

TMA03 Submitted!

So, TMA03 has been submitted!

I planned to do it all yesterday, but had other stuff to do, so I finished the reading (100 pages) and made notes as I was going along.  I found this to be very effective! I also made a plan, just in case I needed one. Plus, it was a little bit useful. Today, after shopping, and teatime, and a bit of TV, I started part two – the essay exploring the idea that the rural – urban divide was, as they say, ‘overstated’.  1000 words for that one. I didn’t manage to write about all the things i’d planned to, as ever. This doesn’t really seem to matter too much, as long as I get my point across. I think I did. Word count came to 1001.

Then I did part one – the part I started on the Metro. Summarise the information in this chloropleth map and that bar graph.  Fair enough. I already had 100 of the 500 words I needed from my public transport study session, and managed to do the other 394 words without too much trouble.

I pretty much started at nine/ ten ish, and sent it at about half one. I don’t actually remember when I started. But it didn’t take long to do. I think the notes I made really helped.

On to TMA04! Hooray!

Plus, my W100 module material is due on the 11th, that’s next Friday!

Essay Writing + Public Transport = Mixed Results

Today I went to band practice, as usual on a Thursday, on the Travel West Midlands Metro.  And I took my Assignment Book l some paper, and Learning Companion. I intended to work.

I took my preferred seat, thankfully free, and put my headphones on (I loaded YouTube, the radio was crap).  THEN I bought my ticket (how rude) and took my books out.  In the learning companion, there is a chloropleth map of Scotland, showing population change between 2000 and 2010.  There is also a bar chart of the age of the population.  We have to, in 500 words, describe how the population has changed.  Not explain, just describe.  This is the first half of TMA03.  So I wrote about it.

I got some funny looks, some VERY funny looks, but I did 100 words.  So that’s something!
